UPDATE: Apples Airline adapter upgrade option

We have decided that we will NOT offer the upgrade option to users with the Apple Airline adapter.
With the time involved in modifying the circuitry in the Apple Airline adapter and for the price...We've decided that we can get better results from converting Apple’s AC adapter. Also, the demand does not seem that great.

Upgraded Apple Magsafe Airline Adapter

Here is one of our working prototype of the Apple Magsafe Airline Adapter that has been upgraded so that it can be used to with your Macbook Pro in the Airlines and be used in the car.

Please email us if you would like to be contacted once we make this upgrade available.

Univeral Apple adapter Added

We've added a Universal Apple adapter so that users can use it with other adapters such as iGo & Kengsington. They will also be able to use external batteries such as this. PLEASE email us first to verify that you have the right setup.

Keep in mind our car/airline adapter solution using other adapters is still a better solution then Apples airplane adapter since it does NOT charge the battery.

We will also be offering users the option to upgrade their recently announced Apple Airline adapter so that it CAN be used to charge on the airplane and be used in the car. Please contact us if you would like this done.

Apple's Airline Power Adapter

Today Apple released their own Airline Power adapter. It has the following description:

Sleek and light, MagSafe Airline Power Adapter works with in-seat DC power ports available on many commercial airliners — both EmPower ports and 20mm ports with the included adapter. Check with your airline regarding availability of in-seat power ports.

Because it's a MagSafe Adapter, you'll continue to enjoy MagSafe convenience just as you're already enjoying at home or work. The magnetic DC plug both ensures a tight connection and enables a clean break from the power port if there is undue tension — preventing your MacBook from being pulled off of your tray table if someone accidentally yanks the cord.

Important notes:
  • Using the MagSafe Airline Power Adapter provides power for your computer but does not charge the battery.
  • The MagSafe Airline Power Adapter is not compatible with automobile power ports.

Please note that our Car/Airline adapter continues to offer a better solution.

1) It DOES charge the battery in Airlines.*
2) It IS compatible with automobile power ports.

Although our Car/Airline DC adapter does not come with empower plug (sold separately), our next model will include the Airline plug that is integrated with the adapter. It will continue to offer the above benefits and more.

* Provided that you are not fully taxing your Macbook Pro to it's limit. Otherwise, it will charge your battery for about 90% of the users.

Empower Plug and external battery update

We are now selling the Airline empower plug from our buy page...
Also, we are even closer to offering an external battery option with Magsafe connector... Keep your votes coming in! yours might push it to reality that much faster!

External long term battery for Macbook / Macbook Pro

Update: we now offer external battery solutions.

There seems to be a need for external battery pack for Macbook / Macbook Pro. We are looking into that which will work with the magsafe connector.

Please email us as we are gauging it's demand.

Send your own Apple adapter & news

We are also now adding the option of users supplying their own Apple adapters to us for us to convert to use with Car / Airline... Choose your options here

Users have been successful using their newly converted magsafe connector with the combination AC/DC adapter such as Kengsington's

Do It Yourself Manual

There have been request for a DIY manual and the suggested price would be $19.95. The manual includes technical information on how the Apple adapters works including pin-outs. Available to order here

DIY manual is intended for those who know some things about soldering and electronics.

We will also be including some information on how to get AC/DC combo adapters such as the iGo and Kensington adapters to work with the magsafe.

Empower plug

Some airlines do not have the standard cigarette plug like cars. In this case we suggest that you purchase one like the following:

http://www.magellans.com/store/Electrical___Electrical_AccessoriesEA270

However, DO NOT misunderstand the purpose of this plug. It is simply a way to change the shape of one plug to another shape, it does not supply modified power to your laptop whatsoever!

* We are not promoting the above link, it is just merely an example of the type of plug you need, there are plenty of other places to purchase the Airplane plug (empower plug).

P.S. We are looking in the possibility in including this plug with our Modification- Please check back.

Macbook conversion added and podcast

We are now converting Macbooks also. Please allow 3-6 weeks for delivery.

90w Car adapter from 75w airplane limit?

There have been some misunderstandings about getting 90w when there is only 75w available from the airplane...

The Car adapter supplies up to 90w of power if demanded; it is impossible to get 90w if there is only 75w available, but there is a tremdus amount of energy wasted converting from DC to AC, then BACK to DC... You've lost several wattage points just simply converting from DC to AC right off the bat. Therefore, there's a better chance that you'll be better performance with a direct DC to DC solution in an airplane as opposed to using an inverter.

This Car adapter has an adjustable voltage output, use can adjust voltage output from 15v all the way up to 24v (I don't recommend using anything over 18v though).

User need not return their old 85w Magsafe Apple adapter, however, it'll cost you $90.00. Happy

Motion Detection sprinkler pet deterrent

One of my all time favorite gyverisms was the motion detection water sprinkler pet deterrent.

I used to have a Dog that would love using the driveway as his spot. I've tried all the conventional way to stop him when I wasn't there. They didn't work so I went to the hardware store and got a sprinkler, water solenoid, motion detection floodlight, some wood, PVC pipes, transformer, and some wires.

For there on, every time my dog will go on the driveway, the sprinkler will active and scare him off.

I'd imagine this will work perfectly for those nasty raccoons, and other animals that constantly raid your garbage or annoy you when you are not there.

Email me, if the list is large enough, I'll post step to step plans on how to build one...

Mike.

P.S. Not responsible for any injuries, etc. while attempting to build this ourself Happy

New MacBook Pro power plug

One of my favorite sites... macfixit.com posed a question whether there are third party co's that will make the new magnetic power plugs for the new Intel MacBooks. Since Steve said that it is Pat. Pend. It'll be interesting to see if and when that will happen. Meanwhile without have one on my hands yet, I'd suspect that one can simply cut the magnetic plug off and make your own universal "adapter" by using a plug such as one from Radio Shack. Your Universal plug can then be used on any power adapter such as a car powers that's currently on the market... Stay tuned I'll be posting how to's once I get my hands on one.

Mike.
