Note: This is for laptops only.
This might be a very crucial concern for all laptop users especially those who are working online. It is stressful when suddenly your laptop doesn’t cooperate at all.
However, you can try some of these solutions to fix it yourself using the possible solutions below. You can try each one of them until the problem will be resolved.
The following solutions are the basic things to do when your laptop is not turning on. If you are not computer savvy, you can still do the following steps. There might be other complex solutions on how to fix it but it depends on the situation of your laptop. There might be a deeper problem why it doesn’t turn on but now let us focus on the basic ones.
1. Remove all devices that connect to your laptop.
You have to remove any peripherals connected to your laptop such as flash drive, mouse, keyboard, memory card, or DVD (Digital Video Disc). This can be a reason why your laptop doesn’t turn on. Your laptop’s BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) may be trying to boot from a removable storage device.
2. Remove and reconnect the battery.
Try to disconnect the power cable and remove your laptop’s battery. Wait for at least 1 minute then put the battery back to your laptop and connect the power cable. Now, turn on your laptop. If this doesn’t work for you, then proceed to the next solution.
3. Check the power source and power cable.
Make sure that there is electricity in your outlet. To check that there is power on an outlet, try to charge any device such as phone, tablet, camera, etc. for confirmation. If there is power, then check the power cable if it is properly connected to your laptop and plugged into an outlet.
4. Check your AC (Alternating Current) Adapter.
Check the adapter cord if it is tightly connected to both ends. You can also check the pin at the end of the adapter if it is broken or bent. This bent pin is the reason why your laptop is not receiving any power. You can replace the adapter to resolve the problem.
5. Remove the battery and connect your AC (Alternating Current) Adapter.
Remove the battery of your laptop and connect your AC adapter but make sure that there is no problem with your AC adapter after checking it. Turn on your laptop. If it turns on, then the problem is your battery. Try to clean your battery by wiping the dust on it especially the copper/metal where the power flows. If it is still not working, then replace your battery.
6. Drain your laptop’s electricity.
Even if your laptop is turned off, there is still electricity inside of the system. Try to drain any residual power of your computer. To drain the power, try the following steps:
a. Disconnect first the AC adapter and remove your laptop’s battery. If your battery is non-removable, then leave it connected to your laptop, you just disconnect the AC adapter.
b. Hold down the power button for 15 seconds to 1 minute to totally drain the power of your laptop.
c. Plug the AC adapter into your laptop without inserting back the battery.
d. Press the power button to turn on your laptop. If it will turn on, check if it boots correctly.
Note: If step 6 doesn’t work for you for the first attempt, try to repeat the process.
If the above solutions didn’t work for you and not sure to do the other complex solutions you might hear, then better to contact the support of your laptop when it is still covered by warranties.
