Why Solar Panels On Power Banks Are Not Enough?

There are a lot of power banks on the market that could charge your devices such as phones, tablets, etc., and could give you a convenient way when you are out of power especially in case of emergency. The most popular type of power bank are the smaller ones with USB output and has built-in solar panels, it is called the “solar power bank.” It is an energy storage device that collects energy from the sun and can be used to charge different devices or gadgets such as phones, & tablets. Its connection point is usually via USB cable for small devices.

Now, let us talk about the common size solar power banks that are commonly used by many to charge their phones or other low-powered devices. They might be convenient to carry on but might not be convenient to charge with. This is not because of its portability but of its battery capacity.

WHY ARE BUILT-IN SOLAR PANELS NOT ENOUGH?

The manufacturers have a simple equation for getting the time of charge of a specific solar power bank. The time range will depend on the battery’s capacity. The bigger the capacity, the longer charging will be required.

Time to Charge = (Battery Capacity) / (Solar Panel Power)

Most of the solar power banks use bigger battery capacity, that is why 1 solar panel is not enough to charge the power bank within a reasonable amount of time (cloud cover is another factor). Aside from that, the solar panel has an output of power of only 5 volts. In this connection, it really takes time to charge and make the battery to its full capacity. One or even two days may not be able to charge the built power bank. It can, however, help if you are in a pinch when days to recharge is not an issue for you.

That is why we recommend solar panels that are separate from the power banks because you can specify a larger set of panels that will overcome the amount of power needed to charge the power banks in a reasonable time.

Nevertheless, it is an environment-friendly (if you don’t consider the manufacturing & disposal of solar panels) device that uses clean energy from nature which is the sun.

Aside from the power banks for phones, do you know that there are heavy-duty power banks, too, that can charge high-powered devices such as laptops and other devices (phones, tablets, iPads, cameras, etc.)? They are portable and you can charge your gadgets quickly even 3 devices at a time.
